Waste generated from disposable items ( other than waste sharps ) such as tubes, catheters, gloves, intravenous sets, IV bottles and all types of plastic waste. This waste can be contaminated or non-contaminated. Use red barcode sticker only.
Waste sharps like needs, scalpels, blades (including used and unused) to be handed over after chemical disinfection and cutting/burning in cardboard box with white barcode sticker. The box should be marked as ‘Metal Material only’. Glass waste like glass bottles, broken glass pieces, vials etc. should be handed over after disinfection by using 1% hypochlorite or equivalent solution in cardboard box with white barcode sticker. The box should be marked as ‘Glass Material only’.
Both metal and glass, use yellow barcode sticker only.
Please Note: Liquid waste (Waste generated from laboratory and washing, cleaning, housekeeping and disinfection activities, Urine / Saline / Liquid Medicines etc. should not be handed over to PESPL.
For Liquid Waste follow Chemical Treatment using at least 1% hypochlorite solution or any other equivalent chemical reagent. It must be ensured that chemical treatment ensures disinfection. Then it should be discharged into drains.
Waste other than bio-medical waste like coconut shells, flowers, fruits, kitchen wastes, vegetable wastes, cooked food material, papers, dry wastes, dust etc. should not be handed over to PESPL. (It should be sent to Municipal Dustbins)
Do not mix Bio-medical waste of Red, Yellow and White containers.
