Red Bag: 

  • To be used for Category 7 (Solid Waste after cutting/piercing )

Waste generated from disposable items ( other than waste sharps ) such as tubes, catheters, gloves, intravenous sets, IV bottles and all types of plastic waste. This waste can be contaminated or non-contaminated. Use red barcode sticker only.


Yellow Bag

  • To be used for Category 1 ( Human Anatomical Waste ),
  • Category 2 ( Animal Waste),
  • Category 3 (Microbiology & Bio-technology Waste)
  • Category 5 (Discarded Medicines and cytotoxic drugs)
  • Category 6 (Items contaminated with blood & body fluids including cotton, dressings, soiled plaster casts, linen, beddings etc)
  • Please Note: Amputed body part must be accompanied with  certificate from the hospital.
  • Use yellow barcode sticker only.

Cardboard Container with White Barcode Sticker:

  • To be used for Category 4 (Waste sharps and Glass Material)/li>
  • Separate boxes to be used for metal and glass.

Waste sharps like needs, scalpels, blades (including used and unused) to be handed over after chemical disinfection and cutting/burning in cardboard box with white barcode sticker. The box should be marked as ‘Metal Material only’. Glass waste like glass bottles, broken glass pieces, vials etc. should be handed over after disinfection by using 1% hypochlorite or equivalent solution in cardboard box with white barcode sticker. The box should be marked as ‘Glass Material only’.

Both metal and glass, use yellow barcode sticker only.

Please Note: Liquid waste (Waste generated from laboratory and washing, cleaning, housekeeping and disinfection activities, Urine / Saline / Liquid Medicines etc. should not be handed over to PESPL.

For Liquid Waste follow Chemical Treatment using at least 1% hypochlorite solution or any other equivalent chemical reagent. It must be ensured that chemical treatment ensures disinfection. Then it should be discharged into drains.


DON’Ts

Waste other than bio-medical waste like coconut shells, flowers, fruits, kitchen wastes, vegetable wastes, cooked food material, papers, dry wastes, dust etc. should not be handed over to PESPL. (It should be sent to Municipal Dustbins)

Do not mix Bio-medical waste of Red, Yellow and White containers.


PLEASE NOTE THAT IN FOLLOWING CASES, WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT BIO-MEDICAL WASTE FROM YOU.

  • Noted improper segregation in Red bag.
    • Infected waste (category 1,2,3,5 or 6) found in red bag.
    • Sharps (category 4) found in red bag.
    • Glass (category 4) found in red bag.
    • Municipal general waste in red bag.
  • Noted improper segregation in Yellow bag.
    • Plastic / rubber (category 7) found in yellow bag.
    • Sharps (category 4) found in yellow bag.
    • Glass (category 4) found in yellow bag.
    • Municipal general waste in yellow bag.
  • Noted improper segregation in White Container.
    • Plastic / rubber (category 4) found in white container.
    • Infected waste (category 1,2,3,5 or 6) found in white container.
    • Sharps and Glass material found in one white container
    •   Municipal general waste in white container.
  • Improper labels used while handing over the BMW.
    • Red or White barcode sticker used for Yellow bag.
    • Yellow or White barcode sticker used for Red bag.
    • Red or Yellow barcode sticker used for Cardboard Container.
